Your Next Quarter Starts with Why
The final quarter can be more than a rush to finish the year. Rob Brady and Mark Burgess explore how estate agency leaders can review what matters, plan for change and make time to think beyond the market’s next turn.
As the final quarter approaches, it is easy to get caught up in the latest figures. Valuations may be slower, pipelines may feel stuck, or activity may suddenly pick up. But a busy or quiet month does not tell you whether your business is moving towards the future you want.
In this episode of the Estate Agency X Podcast, Rob Brady and Mark Burgess discuss how agency owners can use the final months of the year to step back, review their goals and ask better questions. What did you set out to achieve? What progress have you made? And, where results have fallen short, what did you learn about the decisions and actions behind them?
The conversation returns to one question: why? Wanting more leads, more valuations or a refreshed brand may sound like a clear objective, but what outcome are you really trying to create? A stronger team connection, for example, needs to be linked to a practical purpose and a way to understand whether things are improving. Without that, it is easy to stay busy without knowing whether the work is helping.
The episode also looks at how estate agency technology is changing. The hosts encourage agents to consider whether their systems help them see what is happening across their business and what needs attention next. That means looking beyond a list of features and asking what outcomes a system can support. It also means making time to understand supplier agreements and plan a transition before it becomes urgent.
AI is another part of that change. Rather than treating it simply as a way to reduce headcount, the discussion considers how it can take repetitive administration away from people and help them focus on higher-value work: building relationships, making sound judgements and serving clients well. The opportunity comes from using technology with a clear purpose, while keeping people central to the service.
Finally, the episode asks owners and leaders to protect time for thinking. When every day is filled with calls, problems and decisions, it is difficult to work out what needs to change. Setting aside focused time can help leaders plan, test assumptions and identify the work that matters most.
If you lead an independent estate agency, use this conversation to review the year with greater purpose and decide what deserves your attention next.
